Amidst all the prophetic words being spoken today about what lies ahead, I believe there is one reality that we must prepare for: The organized Church of this nation is about to be turned on it’s head and begin to function in smaller units, not bigger ones. It’s going to start looking a lot more like the book of Acts than that of the Reformation, ministering out of empowered relationships more than theological debate. I believe we could see some dramatic shifts of this by the end of this year.
Two weeks ago, I posted a dream the Lord gave me about the Church. I saw a beautiful church with a well-maintained brick façade that, within minutes, fell apart – actually imploded – because of a river of God that flooded it from the foundation up. The water rose so fast there was no way to stop it or escape it. To the side was a group of people standing on a large Rock, looking heavenward. I knew He was saying that things were about to change. His Presence is going to flood the current foundations of the organized Church and wash away anything that isn’t of Him. Whether they are man-made programs or secular mindsets, He is going to cleanse His Bride to make her holy. This is why we must station ourselves on Jesus, The Rock of our salvation.
Since that time, the Lord reminded me of another dream I posted in March of 2014 about the Church going through a radical transformation. In this dream, I was sitting in a cathedral of immense size and grandeur, when all of the sudden my seat was lifted up and I begin to go on this crazy ride as the building itself became a Transformer…you know…like the toys and movie:-) It basically turned upside-down and inside-out and I could hear all the clicking sounds of things being shifted and put into place. It was a wild ride that took my breath away. All I could do was hang on. I knew He was saying to get ready for a sudden and dramatic change in how we see Church.
What holds us together are not our liturgies, church governments, programs or successful ministries. He is cleaning out His House of all the fluff and forcing us to get back to the basics of following Him and walking TOGETHER in healthy relationships, empowered by the Holy Spirit. He wants to strengthen the family unit and restore the joy and intimacy of fellowship among believers in smaller settings. Though I anticipate there will still be large churches and ministries for specific assignments, I believe the core of our strength will come from small groups and intimate relationships with each other. We will no longer depend on the church to take care of us and feed us. Instead, we will become the ones to feed the church! Just like the book of Acts, believers will begin to walk in a level of supernatural empowering that will invade every part of their lives. Instead of going to church for our weekly fill-up, we will BECOME the church, filled and overflowing with the power and presence of Christ.
I see the Lord sovereignly placing people and even geographically moving families to be close to healthy fellowships where they can receive support and encouragement for the days ahead. As much as we need HIM, we also need each other. We cannot be so preoccupied with “stuff” that we forget what is most important and WHO is most important.
Instead of waiting for revival to come to our churches, we need to BECOME revival; a people ready to move and act at the Spirit’s directives to demonstrate the kingdom of God to a world that’s literally falling apart before our eyes. Foundations will crumble, systems will fail, and everything that can be shaken WILL be shaken. This is good news, however, because it will pave the way for the sons of daughters of the kingdom to rise up and BE the true representatives of Christ and carriers of His presence.
The Church Age may be coming to its end but the Kingdom of God is at hand.
