“Divine Pillars of History” That was the phrase I heard as I awoke on January 11. It carried fire on it and I knew it was for the Church.
It was short but concise. Within these few words, I sensed God was giving us a glimpse of what He sees – in us. This declaration from heaven carries both a marker and a mandate. It marks us because WE are those divine pillars in the household of God. We are being called to stand with the cloud of witnesses to see history fulfilled (Hebrews 11:39-40). The declaration is also a mandate because God is calling us to establish His House this year. We are to be those divine pillars that establish, uphold, and undergird the House of the Lord so that He can dwell here with His presence.
Just as the White House is establishing a new administration and protocols this year, so is God calling believers to a new administration within HIS House. It will carry a divine fire to usher in blessings and breakthroughs that have been stored up for generations.
There is a joining together of those who have gone before; pillars in the house of the Lord. We are being called together, as one, to stand as portals between heaven and earth. Those in God’s household are pillars of foundation and truth (1 Timothy 3:16) as well as “living stones” (1 Peter 2:4-6; Galatians 2:9). The foundation of His House is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. It is this foundation that establishes and empowers all the other gifts and parts of the body to rise and become a holy dwelling place of God.
Consequently, you are … members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. (Ephesians 2:19-22 NIV)
This is the administration of God’s kingdom and His established order within His household. It has never changed and is still the divine blueprint for the body to become ONE. It is this blueprint that will release the fullest blessing and demonstration of heaven’s glory on the earth and bring in the final harvest.
Pillars connect heaven and earth
The very first time a pillar is mentioned in Scripture is when Jacob slept under an open heaven (Genesis 28:18-22). After a night of angelic visitation, he set up a pillar as an altar of remembrance. This portal from heaven to earth released blessings, promises, and a spiritual inheritance that Jacob embraced. The pillar symbolized this covenant promise from the Lord and marked it as a dwelling place of God’s presence.
“… then the LORD will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house.” (v. 22 NIV)
It is because of God’s covenant with us as His people, that we become pillars of His presence (Exodus 13:22; Deuteronomy 31:15). Just as the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire led God’s people in the wilderness, so are we to be those who manifest the fire and presence of God to the lost. We are the connection point between heaven and earth, opening the way for His blessings and breakthroughs as we stand as pillars in His house. History is waiting for us to stand in this place where God dwells so that the promises of God’s people throughout the generations can be released (2 Kings 23:3).
The power of God’s blueprint
When a good foundation is laid, the walls can be put in place and the house can be built. The only way for a house to be securely established is through a strong foundation. Apostles and prophets are called to be foundational pieces because of the unique grace on their gifts. The apostle is a builder and one who establishes foundational truths (2 Timothy 1:11). The prophet is the visionary and seer who inspires and empowers the saints in their call to help build the house (Acts 13:1-3). Teachers then apply the foundational truths in practical ways (1 Corinthians 12:28). Pastors, evangelists, workers of miracles, and other gifts within the body of Christ minister most effectively when the foundation is rightly established. Without the two foundational leaders of apostle and prophet in place, the house will falter and the other gifts will be limited in their power and authority (Ephesians 4:11-13).
If we are to be those divine pillars of history, we must consider how we are building. The reality is that the corporate Church of America has not been built on apostles and prophets, but on pastors and teachers. Though there are some valid apostolic ministries in the nation pioneering the way, most congregations do not function with an understanding of an apostolic/prophetic foundation. Due to long-held cultural norms and a misguided belief that these gifts no longer function, many churches lack the proper foundation from which to expand and multiply. Without apostolic ministry, churches will become ingrown and fail to reach the lost. Without prophetic ministry, churches will fall into programs without power and routines without purpose. Until EVERY part of the body is equipped and empowered to fulfill their role in the Great Commission, God’s House will be incomplete and our mission unfinished.
The call of heaven
God is calling us back to His blueprint for the Church. His original design and intent is for us to be DIVINE PILLARS OF HISTORY established, empowered, and releasing heaven on earth. Apostles must be empowered to build and to call up believers in their call and purpose. Prophets must be released to speak the revelatory wisdom of God to inspire and equip the saints. Pastors must be recognized as anointed shepherds within their field of influence to nurture and guide the flocks. Teachers must be invited to expound God’s Word and bring greater revelation to our daily lives. Evangelists must be recognized and commissioned to bring in the harvest and stir up greater passion for the kingdom.
It is only by God’s grace and power that this can happen. It is only through mutual submission, cooperation, and humble hearts, that we will see the body of Christ rise up to become that Holy Temple where God can dwell.
Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar (pillars of fire) in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name. (Revelation 3:11-12 NKJV)
