In a dream several weeks ago, I walked into a room filled with members of an African American congregation. There were groups praying all around the room in circles of prayer. I heard joyful shouting and rejoicing as a large group of them had just finished praying together. As I got closer, I saw other groups still huddled in fervent intercession, experiencing similar breakthroughs.
As they emerged from their prayers, I saw one couple repeating what they had just prayed. They had BROKEN OFF THE NEGATIVE REPORT AND CURSES over them by a previous leader and were DECLARING GOD’S WORD ABOUT THEM. As they repeated the Father’s heart over them, they were jumping up and down with great freedom and joy. The entire congregation was going through this same process in prayer and it was causing great rejoicing.
As I awoke, I sensed the Lord’s delight in His sons and daughters taking hold of their identity in Him and refusing to let the past define their future. It was their own declarations that were bringing the final breakthrough.
This is Black History month. I believe the Lord wants to encourage the African American community! Regardless of what has been spoken to you or about you in previous generations, YOU ARE HIS DELIGHT! He is reminding you of your RIGHTS as HIS INHERITANCE. You qualify, and you need to declare it!
All who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ (Romans 8:14-17 ESV).
What I saw in the dream is the key to completing the process of true freedom in Christ for ALL His sons and daughters! It is in DECLARING A NEW REPORT! This is the next step that many of us must take in securing our freedom in Christ. It’s not enough to repent and forgive. We must testify with our own lips heaven’s report about our purpose and destiny. Regardless of our oppressors ever acknowledging their sin or changing their negative report, GOD HAS THE FINAL SAY IN WHO WE ARE! It is our declarations of HIS report that will set our hearts free.
Let’s encourage one another to declare God’s words about us. He promises to deal with those who oppress us and those who have hurt us. He will vindicate us and deal with the injustice. Our power, however, lies in our own testimony. Let’s remember His report and the inheritance that is ours and shout it from the rooftops!
So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36)!
