If you regularly engage in spiritual warfare, I appeal to you. Evaluate your tools of intercession!
Many believers are using Old Testament practices without realizing New Covenant realities in dealing with spiritual strongholds over cities and regions. In this short video teaching, I take you through an overview of the book of Acts and detail how the early disciples dealt with these principalities. It’s not what you think. The few scriptures in the New Testament that refer to principalities make clear the realities and boundaries associated with them. :
We are affected by them, but are called to STAND in the truth – not engage in battle. Ephesians 6:12-13 (NKJV) – For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
God Himself will deal with them. Colossians 2:15 (NKJV) – And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Even principalities won’t keep us from God’s love. Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV) – For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What we destroy and “take down” are not the principalities, but the lies we believe. 2 Corinthians 10:5-6 (NKJV) – We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
Our spiritual battle is in our minds and belief systems, and it’s our own thoughts we have to battle and take captive. Though demonic forces may try to discourage us and take us down, we can resist the enemy, apprehend the truth, and stand on God’s Word in order to disarm any attack against us. When we deal with corporate strongholds, it’s the same pattern.
I am using an outline I’ve prepared for you to use as a follow-up guide for prayer and reflection. It’s found on my blog under PDF Downloads HERE (A Biblical Framework for Dealing with Principalities and Spiritual Rulers). I encourage you to read through these scriptures and the ways in which the early apostles faced opposition, threats, and outright witchcraft in cities. We can learn a lot and discover new strategies in our prayers as well as new approaches to city-wide transformation. Watch and share with others who have a call to intercede for cities and regions!
