A WORD TO THE PROPHETIC MOVEMENT (with video)

This prophetic word is specifically for those called to be prophetic voices in this season, as well as to those who know they are called to mentor and disciple prophetic people…

In a recent dream, the Lord showed me the Prophetic Movement as a small child around 10 or 11 years old. Though this child carried great charisma and unusual gifting, its main issue was rebellion to authority. It didn’t like to be told what to do. Even as I was trying to dress him, he fought me. I finally had to lay him on the table to do my job.

After struggling some more as the parent, I appealed to this child asking if he wanted a relationship with me. I was tired of the fight. He calmed down and said, yes. Then, I did something that, in the natural, would be highly inappropriate. I kissed him on the mouth. Not as a child, but as my counterpart – as if we were partners. I found myself seeking a relationship with him that I knew probably wasn’t appropriate or even healthy. Yet, I didn’t want to lose my connection to him. Upon waking, I knew the Lord was trying to get my attention. The state of this special child and my inappropriate response to his struggle were the focus of this message.

I believe this dream is a strong exhortation to those who operate in the prophetic, as well as to those who give spiritual oversight to them. I believe it shows that the Prophetic Movement as a whole is still very childish. Not due to any lack of gifting or anointing, but because of the lack of oversight and accountability (1 John 2:12-14). This isn’t about age, but about the consecration of a vessel. Because prophetic people often fight against any critical feedback or correction, their growth is being hampered. Though the gifts are strong, character is still lacking.

However, this is also an exhortation to those called to disciple, mentor, and raise up those in prophetic ministry. The Lord would say, “Stop ‘kissing up’ to the anointing! Do not be mesmerized by the supernatural gifts or those who operate in them. They need direction and accountability in order to mature, and you must be the parent, even when it’s not popular.”

This is not an easy word to share and may seem to be a harsh rebuke. Yet, I see the mercy of God and the tender love of a Father. Sometimes, we simply need a visible illustration of our current state to jar us into reality. The body of Christ must continue to mature. Though the spiritual gifts are greatly admired and pursued among believers, the quality of character in the operation of those gifts is still in great need of refinement. The Lord is giving us a wake-up call to how heaven sees our current state and what we must do to progress and grow up. His desire is to see us mature and become all that we were intended to be as His sons and daughters.

“BLESSED is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. (Job 5:17 NIV)

For those called to be prophetic voices, please do not gauge your influence by your gift, your understanding of the supernatural, or any mantle you might carry. You should be much more concerned about your influence and favor in heaven than your influence and favor on the earth. Your true influence with heaven comes from walking in healthy and accountable relationships within the body of Christ. It comes when you embrace godly discipline and allow God’s refining process to mature you through the spiritual authorities He places in your life – even when you don’t like it.

To those leaders who disciple and mentor prophetic people – be the parent. If the Prophetic Movement is going to grow up, it needs those who can lovingly, but firmly, provide needed counsel, feedback, and confrontation when needed. Do not “kiss up” to those carrying supernatural gifts so you can be connected to them. Do not become enamored with those who have dramatic spiritual encounters. You can be encouraged by them but remember your role. You are not disqualified to lead if you have not had a similar spiritual encounter. Nor will you lose ground if you provide counsel that doesn’t seem popular. As long as you love them more than you feel threatened by them or are enamored by them, you will be in a position to do them some good.

Within the context of a healthy spiritual family walking in mutual submission, fathers and sons (mothers and daughters) are meant to have a powerful relationship that causes massive growth and blessing for the Kingdom. Working through conflicts and talking through disagreements is the best way to build trust. Learn to know one another’s hearts and seek God’s glory above your own. Both roles require sacrifice and surrender. Personally, I can identify with both roles, so I totally understand the issues and challenges on both sides. It’s possible but takes work.

There is no “suddenly” in character development. It takes time and is usually matured through testing…. lots of testing:-). Be patient and allow the Holy Spirit to do His work. Let us pray for one another and determine to work through our struggles together. Pray for those called to prophetic ministry that they might wholeheartedly yield to the sanctifying work of the cross and embrace the spiritual authorities in their lives. Pray for those who are called to disciple and mentor prophetic people, that they might be filled with a supernatural love for these sons and daughters, boldly providing the necessary direction and correction that only they can give.

“For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.” (1 Thess 2:11-12 NIV)

  1. Wanda,
Yes and Amen. As hard as it is, this is a good and important word of the Lord. God bless you in your commitment to Him without compromise, but with plenty of love and compassion.
    Keep on going.
    Jill

  2. Wanda, your word and video came across in a right spirit. It was easy to listen to and to submit to God’s searching of my heart.

  3. Wanda,
This message is the answer to my prayer for guidance and confirmation in the new year. I believe that, over the past decade, Father has been grooming me to be a mother/mentor to the world in general and the Body of Christ in particular. But the part about not “kissing up to the anointing” hit me right between the eyes. As a recovering people pleaser, I really needed to hear the importance of “speaking the truth in love” no matter what, to those in my sphere of influence. You did the right thing to share your dream and subsequent interpretation. It was just what I needed to hear. Thank you for being a courageous vessel.
    Blessings,
    Anne

  4. Last year year I went for a conference in Nairobi Kenya,a minister I was staying with had this urge to speak to me,he said to me that am a lonely prophet who doesn’t have a mentor and not activated,i didn’t get the activated part but largely he was right. There isn’t any mentoring of prophetic people here, what we experience is quick rejection and suspect ions.i met a young man last December who has this gift too but already in conflict with his pastor,he approached me because I mirrored things he’s been seeing and going through.he wants me to be his mentor but I have never found a mentor for myself.this isn’t good situation for you operate outside of the Church rather than from the Church, rebellion creeps in,what shall we do???.
