WHY KEEP PRAYING IF IT’S ALREADY BEEN PROPHESIED?

Many prophetic intercessors already believe President Trump will be reelected to a second term. Major prophets are declaring it and a growing number of believers are gaining confidence in the Lord’s purposes. However, this prophetic promise is also causing some to back off of prayer, thinking it’s already a done deal. With so many believing in God’s sovereign plans, there is a rising concern that people will not be as urgent in their intercession. Is the wave of prayer that got him into the White House losing its momentum as we head into 2020?

There is certainly a time to simply “stand” in faith and not flinch on the promises of God (see Eph 6:13). When we do this, we are anchoring our own confidence in the Lord and not backing down on God’s Word. However, not only is our persistence in prayer essential to breakthrough; it is by praying in the Spirit that the necessary authority, anointing, and power is released to push the prophetic promise to its fulfillment (see Eph 6:17-18)!

Consider what Jesus did in His midnight hour at Gethsemane. Knowing full well what His Father was intending to do and what His ultimate purpose was, Jesus still prayed and interceded to the point of sweating blood. Not only did He engage in prayer, He exhorted His disciples to not stop praying!

And He came and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” …And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy… And He came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? (Mark 14:37-41 ESV)

Perhaps our nation is in our own midnight hour. Though we may know the Father’s purposes and be unshaken in His ability to see it through, I believe Jesus – the Great Intercessor – is still speaking to His disciples. He is urging us to STAY AWAKE AND PRAY. Knowing the spiritual battle at hand – and our own human weaknesses – He is urging us to stay in the game and build up our “most holy faith” by praying in the Spirit together so the manifest purposes of God can be revealed (see Jude 20-12).

There is a supernatural wind that gets generated by our collective prayers in the Spirit. Just as the prophet Ezekiel was told to prophesy to the wind of the Spirit to raise the dead bones to life (see Ezek 37:9), so the Lord is calling us to SHIFT THE ATMOSPHERE through prayers that put wind to the sails of our prophetic promises. Without the wind of the Spirit to carry them through, our prophetic words will be like sailboats sitting on the water – pretty to look at but going absolutely nowhere. It is this call to persistent prayer and ongoing intercession that heaven is compelling believers to step into this coming year. It’s not enough to stand. We must sow in the Spirit if we want to reap the Spirit (see John 3:6).

Robert Henderson, best-selling author of the Courts of Heaven series, shares a dream he had in January of 2017, one week before President Trump was inaugurated. He said Trump asked him to be his running-mate in the 2020 election. Henderson said he knew it was a call to prayer. He said the Lord told him, “What I intend to do through him will require two full terms. I need for you to run with him in the spirit for this to happen.”

I have personally begun to be much more intentional about praying in the Spirit every morning. Especially during this holiday season, I am trusting the Holy Spirit to bring alignment, reconciliation, and breakthrough to my family in ways that only HE can do. I’ve done all I can in my own understanding. I want to access the faith of God by praying in His language and prophesy the wind of the Spirit to see the prophetic fulfillment of all He has spoken. As we finish this year by gathering with our family and friends, I urge you to activate your spiritual language in a fresh way and see what God can do. Let’s build up our spirit and increase our faith for the GREATER THINGS yet to come!

And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord. (Ezekiel 37:13-14)

  1. Love this! I watched Live yesterday. Thank you for writing it too. I too am praying and believing for my prodigal son. Hebrews 11:35 (TPT) “Faith filled women saw their dead children raised in resurrection power.”

  2. Not specific to this article, but it occured to me that if the Intercessors slow down or stop praying about an issue that has been prophesied, could it literally affect the Timing of the event, but not negate it?

  3. Dear Wanda, I found your blog site. Thank you for serving in this way. I was particularly interested in “Why Keep Praying”

  4. Dear Wanda,
This article is very interesting, even now in retrospect, in light of the outcome of the 2020 election. Would you say that those who prophesied a 2020 Trump victory were misled and/or false prophets? Or was it primarily a failure of the “Church” (meaning all believers) to pray God’s will into manifestation? Just curious how you see it, as I try to make sense of this prophesy (and some other personal prophesy) that failed to actually occur.

    1. (Admin Assist) It’s important to not prematurely negate a prophesy because it hasn’t been realized yet (in our timing) based on our assumptions of the prophesy. We can’t pigeon-hole a prophesy or add assumptions of our own in the timing of the prophecy. There are many prophesies that have not come to pass but that doesn’t mean they were false, or they won’t come to pass. God’s timing is perfect, and He knows the big picture. All we can do is Trust the Lord, wait and see. I personally believe that we will be amazed how this prophesy works out when it does. 20-20 hindsight on how God fulfills His word is always a miraculous journey that unfolds. I’m remembering that a word the Lord gave me in 2001 took 14 years to be fulfilled and I never could have imagined how it came to finally be fulfilled. God is amazing!
