What happened in Richmond, Virginia this week can happen anywhere, and probably will. Many believers across the nation were praying for the city’s rally as threats of insurrection and violence circled the rumor mill. Thankfully, peace permeated the event. I personally know some of the intercessory prayer groups that are stationed there, who have been faithfully standing watch over their city for years. There’s no doubt that their presence and prayers bore weight in the atmosphere, perhaps even more than the thousands praying elsewhere.
It is clear that those who oppose Kingdom values are not only stationed in Washington D.C.. Many who cling to a socialist pipe dream and side with a globalist agenda are making their way into state capitols and city councils all across the nation. It is not enough for these political plotters to have a voice in the land; they want theirs to be the only voice…and they’re looking to move in every county and every city to make sure their voice is the loudest. Until the Church rises up with a stronger voice to call the city to prayer and to action, we will find ourselves silenced in public and stripped of our message.
In my forthcoming book, “Moving from Sword to Scepter” (releasing Feb 18), I talk about the dire need for cities to rise up and secure their territory before it’s too late:
“National transformation can only happen when there is a cumulative effect of individual cities and regions both taking and occupying their land for a righteous cause. It’s at the local level that change must start. We must not only displace wicked rulers in high places, we must have the needed influence and authority to govern our land the way God has always intended, starting right at home. God is calling out to cities to take a stand for righteousness. The only thing that will hinder Him from moving in our community, is us. We are the ones who must take ownership in this call and take action.
Then he began to denounce the cities where most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven?” (Matthew 11:20-23 ESV)
It always starts with repentance and taking responsibility for the ways we have kept our distance and not led our cities in the needed reformation. Then we must use our voice to sound the alarm and gather the troops. If we are faithful to do this and commit ourselves to obeying His voice and engaging with our culture, He will entrust us with even more so that His Kingdom can continue to increase and expand.
…And he said to him, “Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities” (Luke 19:11-17).
Alan Vincent, an apostolic father and prophetic voice to the nations, spoke about this in his book, Kingdom at War:
There is power in intercession. We need intercessors who can clearly hear God and then, through their prayers and the right God-directed activism, get into the realms of politics, the judiciary, law enforcement, education, and the media so His Kingdom can truly come. The kingdom of satan has long been established on Earth and is still here until the Kingdom of God comes to forcibly replace it. There is no vacant, neutral territory anywhere in the world. Therefore, every attempt to establish the Kingdom of God is automatically an invasion of what satan has illegally occupied and now regards as his territory. That is why the Kingdom of God always suffers violence and is vigorously attacked the moment it appears to be gaining ground. The only way to deal with that demonic violence is to be even more spiritually violent in our response.
That “violence” is not physically demonstrated, as Richmond proved, but directed towards our spiritual enemies in prayer. It is in the secret place where these battles are truly won. Even so, it’s not enough to just pray. We should come out of our prayer closets filled with a zeal of the Lord that compels us to take a stand and speak out for what is true and right. We need to model the power of this same Kingdom we so passionately pray about. The world is not going to wait for us. It’s up to us to come out of hiding, take our place, and occupy.
