WHERE’S THE POWER?

Last week, my husband shared a word the Lord gave him rather unexpectedly. The Lord told him, “You can hear my voice, but where’s the power?” Being a pastor who is consistently seeking to hear God’s voice for our church, it struck him that without the supernatural power of God, the words we receive will do little to change anything.

Evidently, the Lord is calling the Church to get past our preoccupation with prophetic words and challenging our ability to MOVE HEAVEN ON EARTH. As much as we need to lean into the counsel of the Lord, the world needs to see a demonstration of God’s power – not just hear revelatory words.

“…so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:5 ESV)

Though we may walk in a certain level of spiritual empowerment on a personal level, I believe the power of God in the corporate Church is sorely lacking. Even with the rising prophetic voices declaring the word of the Lord across the nation, the collective response from the Church seems short of breath. We may have the words of life, but without the wind of the Spirit’s power to back us up, our message will fall flat.

Scripture tells us that the greatest source of our power is a CRUCIFIED LIFE (see 1 Corinthians 1:23-24). It is the cross of Christ that carries the power to vanquish hell and destroy the works of the devil. It is Christ crucified within us that carries the supernatural authority of heaven to shift things on the earth and bring chaos into order.

Even as we raise a cry against the demonic deception and manipulation of justice in the land, we cannot forget who we are as followers of Christ. God’s power will not come simply because of our prophetic declarations or crafted campaigns. God’s presence will not manifest simply by acknowledging His voice. It will come because we have first died to ourselves and laid down our fleshly needs, our personal preferences, and our sacred cows for a cause greater than our own.

Yes, let’s celebrate the prophetic words and revelations He gives us and press in to hear more clearly and accurately. But, let us also position ourselves so that the power of Christ might move in and validate that which we hear and speak, “…for the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.” (1 Corinthians 4:20)

  1. Wanda there is a lot going on, I experienced earlier this week feeling quite sad, and crying as all of this is quite new for me, as I have been a Christian now for ten years and still learning and I do know enough that the enemy is Persecuting us because we are a threat to him, because I will make a stand in the name of Jesus Christ we have authority, I have some lovely friends that I know I can go to, as I am on my own, and for some reason I have found you very good at your speeches, I am very quick on picking up those words, which I believe our Lord and Savior gave us, thank you, I love to share God Bless.

  2. The problem lies in our distance with God. Come closer and get filled with Holy Spirit fire and Power.

  3. I have received my book Sword to Scepter I am reading chapter one, I am so excited to have this book, as I believe we have to stand against darkness, the more that gets involved the better, so here I go, Praise the Lord our God.

  4. Dear Wanda, The lack of power in much of contemporary Christian life and witness has also been much on my mind. I’ve been thinking of Jesus’ instructions to the original disciples to stay in Jerusalem until they were clothed with power from on high. eg Luke 24:49, and also Acts 1:8 is similar. Do you see this as applying to us in any way? There is also the wonderful verse in 1 Thess 1:5 regarding how the gospel came to the the Thessalonian Christians, not only in word but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and in full conviction! How I hope for the gospel to go out in this manner into the lives of those around me. Thanks for your blog and your videos. I am very much appreciating them and am hoping to pick up a copy of your new book in the next week. Kind Regards Susan

    1. Yes, Susan – I definitely see the need for another outpouring of God’s Spirit! This is what I am praying for, especially in this season between Easter and Pentecost! Blessings to you
