Description

What did God mean when He declared over the first man and woman, “Let them rule”? Side by Side describes this pastor’s personal expedition to discover God’s heart on the issue of men and women in ministry.

The author begins with the creation account and God’s original design for men and women working together. Going through the Old Testament and then leading into the New Testament, he provides a cultural and historical context for many of the things addressed in both Jesus’ teachings and Paul’s letters to the early church. Dr. Hess explores the most controversial scriptures dealing with women in the church with thoroughness and sensitivity. Drawing from cultural, historical, and biblical texts, Dr. Hess provides ample evidence that compels the reader to look past traditional mindsets and sacred cows to see a larger message. He presents both sides of the issue with grace and compassion, but lands firmly on the foundation of God empowering both His sons as well as His daughters to co-labor in the Kingdom.

“Dr. Hess’ Side by Side will make a great impact on the church. It will set free numerous evangelicals and conservatives from the bondage of misconstrued biblical interpretations on women’s leadership in the church.”  (Dr. Andrew Park, Professor of Theology and Ethics, United Theological Seminary, Dayton, OH)

“Dr. Hess has done an outstanding job examining this subject with sound biblical scholarship. I am encouraging everyone to read Side by Side, especially leaders…The time we live in, and the waiting harvest, demand that men and women learn to lead together. You will enjoy and learn from this read.”  (Dr. Barry Wissler, President, HarvestNet International, Ephrata, PA)
